TLDR
Every meeting leaves me with a few things to do, and Granola keeps them inside that meeting's notes. Chat can gather them when I ask, but the answer doesn't stay and nothing reminds me. It isn't just me: in Microsoft's survey of 31,000 workers, 55% said next steps at the end of a meeting are unclear.5
The goal: one list each morning of everything I promised, and a reason to open Granola on days without meetings.
Planned target: most people who turn it on open the morning plan on a typical weekday, and complete more of the tasks it lists.
Thinking
Granola writes each meeting's action items into its notes, and Chat can turn them into a checklist I tick off there.6 To see them together, I type "List recent todos" into Chat.6 The answer is useful, but it's gone the next day, and a promise made in Tuesday's call is easy to forget by Thursday.

The follow-through failure is quiet: nothing breaks, tasks just never make it to the backlog.
That's Granola's own team. And people want help here: in the same survey, 80% wanted AI to summarise their meetings and action items.5
Opportunity
Granola clearly cares about action items. It publishes guides on sending them to task managers,1 routes them to Linear, Jira and Asana through Zapier on the Business plan ($14 per user a month),12 and lists "to-do list generation" as a Recipe idea in Chat.3
The gap: every route either sends tasks somewhere else (paid, and only if you use those tools) or stays in one note or one Chat answer. Nothing keeps a running list inside Granola, and nothing reminds you. I found no daily summary or digest in its docs.4
Success metrics
Set before designing, to judge the ideas against.
| Metric | Planned target |
|---|---|
| Morning plan opened | Most weekdays, for people who turn it on |
| Tasks ticked off | Rises week on week |
| App opens on days without meetings | Rises |
| Notifications turned off (guardrail) | Stays low |
Constraints
- Free plan too. Zapier routes are paid only.1
- My list, not the AI's. Granola already asks you to review action items before they sync;1 tasks stay editable.
- Don't become a to-do app. Granola is a notes product, so this must feel light.
- Lock-screen privacy. A morning notification can't show sensitive details.
Job to be done
Job to be done
When my meetings leave me with things to do, I want them in one place each morning, so nothing I promised slips.
Ideas

A · A Tasks tab in Granola
A running list beside Home and Chat, grouped by day, each task linked to its meeting.

B · One-click send
Send approved action items to my task app natively, without Zapier, on any plan.

C · A morning plan
An 8am notification listing today's tasks from recent meetings. No new tab.
Prioritisation
I scored each idea from 1 to 10 on six factors: effort to build and launch, and impact on people and Granola. These are outside estimates, to check with the team.
| Idea | Design | Dev | Launch | Effort | Reach | User value | Business | Impact |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A · A Tasks tab in Granola | 6 | 7 | 5 | 18 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 24 |
| B · One-click send to my task app | 3 | 6 | 4 | 13 | 5 | 7 | 6 | 18 |
| C · A morning plan notificationChosen | 3 | 4 | 3 | 10 | 7 | 6 | 7 | 20 |
A · A Tasks tab in Granola
The highest impact: a lasting home for tasks that brings people back daily. But it's a new surface to design, build and explain, which makes it a big bet.
B · One-click send to my task app
Builds on routes Granola already has, but only helps people who use a task app and sends them away from Granola.
C · A morning plan notification
The lightest build: action items already exist, so this is a daily summary plus a notification. Less complete than A, but it reaches anyone with meetings.
Decision: C first, A if it works. C is the strongest quick win (impact 20) and the cheapest way to test the big bet. If people open the morning plan and tick tasks off, that's the evidence to build A. If they don't, Granola has saved itself a new tab.
The design
Start with the morning plan, grow into a Tasks tab
- Auto-add is on by default, with one switch to turn it off.
- Every task can be edited or removed before it reaches the plan, so the list stays mine.
- The notification stays vague ("2 tasks from your meetings") until you open it.
- Grouped by day, in the same style as Granola's "Coming up".
- Every task links back to the meeting it came from, with the line highlighted.
Trade-offs and learnings
- Granola may not want to be a to-do app. Its Zapier routes send tasks elsewhere. That's the strongest argument against A, and why C comes first.
- AI-found tasks can be wrong. Keeping the review step adds some friction, but trust matters more.
- Checking the docs sharpened the gap. Chat can already make a checklist and list recent to-dos,6 so finding tasks isn't the problem. Keeping them in one place, and being reminded, is.
- My first idea was the biggest one. Scoring turned "build a Tasks tab" into "test the need first".
- Next: a two-week diary study with five people using a fake morning email, measuring opens and tasks done.

Tested in the app: The Chat home suggests “List recent todos”; my free plan has no task view or Zapier.
